Hi Father,

On Friday we rose, ate breakfast and marched off from our campsite with the sun beaming down on us. We hiked into Carlisle and stopped for lunch at the castle where we sampled some fine Cumbrian-roasted coffee. In the afternoon we headed north-west and finished walking at around 3pm. We found a very quaint local pub for supper and John managed to haggle for some indoor accommodation at the campsite!

Saturday started well and departed our campsite at 0740. After a quick break we walked for a soul destroying 2.5 miles of straight road through the Solway Firth salt marshes which seemed never ending. Spirits improved as we neared the end point at Bowness on Solway and we really picked up the pace for the last mile and remembered to offer up a decade of the rosary for thanksgiving. The 84 mile end point came upon us almost unexpectedly. We rounded a corner and there it was! After congratulating one another, we quickly headed to some local tea rooms for some well-earned sustenance.

It has been an enjoyable experience but, my goodness, it has been challenging doing it with all our kit. We've raised £2560 so far and people still have 4 days to donate. I have promised a rousing rendition of the Hippopotamus Song in tribute to the mud we experienced if we get to £3000!

God bless,

Chris Sudlow

The end of the walk. Deo gratias.
